NEWFANE — A 25-year-old from Brattleboro was cited for petit larceny after police say he was caught stealing a tip jar from a business in Newfane.

On Wednesday, police say Carl Engstrom was seen entering the Newfane Market.

According to the report, Engstrom asked the store clerk for two trash bags.

While the employee was retrieving the bags from the back, Engstrom was seen on video taking the employee’s tip jar and placing it into his sweatshirt.

Engstrom then left the store before the employee returned from the back of the store.

The theft was recorded on the store’s video surveillance system, police say.

Engstrom was cited and issued a notice against trespass for the store.
